On July 17, 2025, a jury convicted Carl W. Cacconie of six counts of committing lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14. The evidence presented at trial established that the defendant molested a young girl known to him over a period of several months in 2014 and 2015. In addition to the charged conduct, the jury heard testimony from another victim who described being molested by the defendant under similar circumstances in the early 2000s.

The case was tried over two weeks in Department 3 of the El Dorado County Superior Court in South Lake Tahoe, before the Honorable Judge Michael J. McClaughlin. Following the juryโ€™s verdict, Judge McClaughlin found true the existence of aggravating factors, including that the crimes involved great cruelty or callousness, that the victim was particularly vulnerable, and that the offenses were carried out with planning and sophistication.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 25, 2025, in Department 3. The defendant faces a maximum sentence of 18 years in state prison.

District Attorney Vern Pierson praised the courage of the victims who testified, โ€œThese survivors showed extraordinary bravery in coming forward. Their testimony was critical to securing justice in this case.โ€
