On June 5, 2026, Judge Mark A. Ralphs sentenced Selena Carlson to 32 months in state prison for felony driving under the influence.

The charges stemmed from a December 23, 2025, incident in Placerville. Shortly after midnight, officers with the Placerville Police Department responded to a report of a tan sedan involved in a collision. Officers located Carlson seated in a Toyota Corolla with bumper damage at 49er Liquor on Main Street.

Carlson admitted she had struck something while driving and stopped at the liquor store. A witness reported seeing Carlson drive on Main Street, make a U-turn, pull into the 49er Liquor parking lot, and appear to be nodding off in the driverโ€™s seat.

Officers observed multiple signs of alcohol intoxication, including slurred speech, red and watery eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. Carlson later provided breath samples showing blood-alcohol concentrations of 0.24% and 0.23%โ€”approximately three times the legal limit.

Carlsonโ€™s criminal history includes a prior conviction for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and a prior felony DUI conviction.

Driving under the influence continues to pose a serious threat to public safety. The El Dorado County District Attorneyโ€™s Office remains committed to holding impaired drivers accountable and working with our law enforcement partners to help keep our communities safe.
