On June 24, 2008, Jaime Ramos murdered Ronald Presba by sneaking up behind him and beating him to death with a hammer. He then loaded Mr. Presba’s body into a car, lit it on fire, and ran it off a cliff. For this heinous crime, Ramos was sentenced to 25 years-to-life in prison in 2010. After only 16 years, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation granted Ramos a parole hearing. On February 27, 2025, a parole hearing was conducted. Members of Mr. Presba’s family, along with members of law enforcement from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office who had originally investigated this crime, attended and made impact statements to the Parole Board. Deputy District Attorney Alex Grotewohl appeared on behalf of the People of the State of California and urged the Board to deny Ramos’s early release. After deliberation, the Board issued a three-year denial of Ramos’s parole, meaning Ramos could receive another chance at release after serving only 19 years of his 25-year-to-life sentence.
In three years, we will be here again, making sure that Ramos is held accountable for this heinous crime, and that justice continues to serve the needs of our community.
