As our community prepares to celebrate Halloween, the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office encourages everyone to prioritize safety. Please keep these important reminders in mind to help ensure a safe evening for all:

For Parents and Guardians:
Accompany young children while trick-or-treating, and plan routes in well-lit, familiar neighborhoods.

Ensure costumes allow for clear vision and mobility; add reflective materials or carry flashlights to increase visibility.

Inspect all candy and treats before allowing children to eat them. Discard anything that is unwrapped or appears suspicious.

Remind children never to enter a stranger’s home or vehicle.

For Drivers:
Be especially alert in residential areas and drive slowly.

Avoid distractions, and watch for children crossing streets or stepping out from between parked cars.

Use extra caution at intersections, crosswalks, and driveways.

For Homeowners:
Keep walkways well-lit and clear of tripping hazards.

Provide only factory-sealed treats and avoid anything homemade for distribution.

Secure pets and ensure decorations do not pose safety risks to visitors.

By following these safety practices, we can help make Halloween a safe and enjoyable evening for our entire community.
