Today marks six years since Deputy Brian “Ish” Ishmael made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
On October 23, 2019, Deputy Ishmael and a San Joaquin County deputy—who was on a ride-along—responded to a report of a theft from a marijuana cultivation site in Somerset. As they approached the property, they were met with gunfire. Both deputies were struck, and although they returned fire and wounded the suspect, Deputy Ishmael’s injuries were fatal.
Deputy Ishmael was 37 years old. He had served four years with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and two years prior with the Placerville Police Department. Known for his dedication, professionalism, and good humor, “Ish” was respected by his peers and loved by his community.
He is survived by his wife and three children, who continue to carry his memory forward with strength and grace.
Deputy Ishmael’s bravery, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We honor his legacy and keep his family, friends, and the entire El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office in our thoughts today and always. 💙
