Placerville, Calif. — June 30, 2026 — Nearly 10 months after fleeing justice by failing to appear for sentencing, Carl W. Cacconie, 51, was finally held accountable for his crimes. On June 29, 2026, El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Michael J. McLaughlin imposed the maximum sentence permitted under the law—18 years in state prison.

On July 17, 2025, an El Dorado County jury convicted Cacconie of six counts of committing lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14.

Following his conviction, Cacconie remained out of custody on $1,000,000 bail despite our objections while awaiting sentencing. When he failed to appear for his scheduled sentencing hearing on August 25, 2025, a warrant was issued for his arrest, and he became a fugitive from justice.

After nearly 10 months on the run, Cacconie was apprehended on June 12, 2026, through the coordinated efforts of our office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Sacramento Field Office, and numerous law enforcement partners. He was subsequently returned to El Dorado County to face sentencing.

At yesterday’s sentencing hearing, the victim was able to read her victim impact statement in open court and have her voice heard.

“While no sentence can undo the harm suffered by the victim, we hope this sentence brings some finality to a long and overdue process,” said El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson. “We are grateful to the victim for her courage in coming forward and for allowing her voice to be heard in court. We also thank the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office for its dedication and hard work throughout this case.”

Most importantly, we commend the victim for her extraordinary courage, resilience, and strength throughout this process. Because of her perseverance, justice was ultimately served.
