An El Dorado County jury convicted Robert Gene Spencer of misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia following a two-day jury trial.
This case stems from an incident on May 23, 2024, when officers with the Placerville Police Department contacted Spencer at his tent in an isolated wooded area near Jacquier Road and Smith Flat Road in Placerville. While officers were advising him that camping was not permitted in that location, they observed two glass pipes, commonly used for smoking methamphetamine, inside the tent. A backpack located within the tent contained two clear plastic baggies of methamphetamine, with a combined weight of 6.4 grams.
During trial, Spencer claimed the officers fabricated the evidence; however, the jury rejected that claim and returned guilty verdicts on both counts.
Sentencing is scheduled for February 9, 2026, in Department 7 of the El Dorado County Superior Court.
The El Dorado County District Attorneyβs Office extends its appreciation to the Placerville Police Department for their diligence and continued commitment to keeping dangerous drugs off our streets.
